Become a Mentor

Mentoring Overview

Upon admission, each EmPOWERment trainee is assigned a mentoring team, which is composed of an internal and an external mentor.  The external mentor is an individual who is external to OSU and works within the energy sector. The purpose of an external mentor is to expose students to multiple career pathways and a diversity of ideas beyond what they would obtain within the university setting. External mentors should encompass a broad range of professions within the sustainable energy field, and when possible, reflect a trainee’s own interests and career aspirations within the discipline.

The program is relatively unstructured, giving trainees and their mentors the opportunity to design their relationship in a way that is mutually beneficial. Additional information about general mentorship guidelines can be found here.
